Tampa’s Neighborhood of the Year
Southeast Seminole Heights is the next largest of the three neighborhoods and is a charming Tampa neighborhood primarily consisting of restored bungalow homes. It attracts those who like to be considered Urban Pioneers. It has a mix of all kind of people and is proud of it. Residents come up with ideas and create yearly events to benefit the community. Southeast Seminole Heights Civic Association (SSHCA), with its active membership is so serious about neighborhood rejuvenation that it has organized a group called HIT (Home Improvement Team). This group of people gets together once a month and all work on one person’s home. It is also working on the Beautification of Nebraska Avenue for renewed business and retail development. The Association is also committed to citywide projects such as the Tampa Neighborhood Watch Association, Tampa Homeowners, Neighborhood Environmental Action Team and Paint Your Heart out Tampa, a city-wide program to help low-income, elderly citizens with their home upkeep. In 2003 Southeast Seminole Heights Tampa was nationally recognized as Neighborhood of the Year. SESH is composed of many platted subdivisions, including Demorest, Sultenfuss, Nebraska Heights, Nebraska Park, Shadowlawn, Hanley Heights and McDavid East Seminole Subdivisions among many others. The largest subdivisions are Demorest and Nebraska Heights.
